For instance, when Howard, according to Zora, says that students have a very basic vocabulary, he’s speaking from the point of view of a scholar who expects a wider vocabulary range from his students. As a teacher I feel identified with him. But can Carl be referring to that? What is he referring to, then?

Lengua y Cultura 3- Turno vespertino

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
1, There are many characters who get married or wish to do so. Describe the different motivations they have. Compare them to the motivations people have nowadays for marrying. Think of different people, not just yourself!!
2, What would have happened if Elizabeth had not come across Mr Darcy when she was in the Lake Disctrict with her aunt and uncle? Continue the story from there. Remember you can resort to coincidences (as the author herself does!) but you must keep to the conventions of those times!
3, Imagine you are the maid who is seen in the film, in the background, in the Bennet's household. Choose a member of the family and describe him / her from your point of view (again, remember that YOUR point of view is the maid's, not really YOURS).

1,     The Great Gatsby can be read as an allegory.
   First, look up the meaning of allegory, and find examples of well known allegories.
   Write about this allegory. Use different paragraphs to explain:
*  The general meaning of the allegory. (The beginning and the ending of the novel should give you a cue).
*  What each character stands for
   After working on this, read the author’s biography. Who do you learn about his life? Isn’t there a parallelism between the author’s life, Gatsby’s life and the ‘20s? Explain why (not). Check when the novel was written. Isn’t the novel also an instance of foreshadowing of the end of both the author and the ‘20s?
2,   One of the themes in The Great Gatsby is belonging. This is a pervasive theme in American literature and films. (Check the meaning of road movie. You’ve seen many, can you mention a few examples?) In what way is this theme present in the novel? Which characters ‘belong’? Which ones don’t? In this case too, at the beginning and at the end of the novel the author, through Nick, presents this topic quite explicitly. Find these or other instances.
